PH Consulate General in Chongqing, PTIC-Shanghai pursue deeper engagement with e-trike maker

Chongqing, 20 June 2024 – Following the successful launch in April of the initial 12 units of e-trikes from Chongqing E-Cars in Pakil, Laguna, Consul General Ivan Frank M. Olea and Commercial Consul Glenn G. Peñaranda of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Shanghai met on 19 June 2024 with Mr. Alex Wang, Vice President of the company, to obtain updates on the deployment of e-trikes in Pakil and to discuss Chongqing E-Cars’ plans to expand its business in the Philippines.
At the meeting, Mr. Wang briefed Consul General Olea and Commercial Consul Peñaranda on the e-trikes delivered to Pakil, Laguna, which had been customized according to their initial evaluation of the town’s needs. The lithium-powered e-trikes, which can run for 140-170 kilometers on a single charge, are currently being used as an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional gasoline-fueled tricycles in Pakil, Laguna. Mr. Wang also explained the e-trikes’ cost-saving advantages vis-à-vis traditional tricycles, as well as their modern features.
Consul General Olea thanked Mr. Wang for his briefing and assured him of the Consulate General’s readiness to assist in terms of sharing information and advice regarding Chongqing E-Cars plans to expand its business in the Philippines. He added that the Consulate General and Chongqing E-Cars can strengthen cooperation in terms of promoting people-to-people and business-to-business exchanges between the Philippines and China, acknowledging the company’s successful partnership with a local government unit.
Commercial Consul Peñaranda took the opportunity to share the Philippine government’s favorable policies toward electric and green-energy vehicles in light of the passage of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act. He also offered assistance in providing relevant advice to facilitate Chongqing E-Cars’ plans to set-up a Philippine-based manufacturing or assembly plant.
Also present in the meeting was Mr. Ming Jing, deputy branch manager of Allied Commercial Bank-Chongqing.
The meeting was followed by a brief visit to Chongqing E-Cars’ plant. END
