Philippine Consulate General’s Pasko ng Bayan sa Chongqing
Celebrates Hope in the New Normal
04 December 2021 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chongqing, in cooperation with the United Filipinos in Chongqing, staged this evening the Pasko ng Bayan sa Chongqing, a Christmas gathering of around a hundred Filipinos in this southwestern Chinese municipality.
Setting the tone for the event, Consul General Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, in her Christmas message, appreciated the long-awaited blessing of physically convening as a community for a real Christmas celebration. “After two long years of complying with public health measures, we can be grateful to enjoy our cherished Filipino Christmas traditions tonight,” she said. “Preparations for this Pasko ng Bayan lit our inner Christmas lights much like a Pinoy parol and this is one bonding event that will fortify our hope and resilience as Filipinos in Chongqing while enhancing our sense of community as we head into the New Year,” she added.
The United Filipinos in Chongqing, the Chongqing Filipino Teachers, and their children, and the Chongqing Warriors, pooled their talents for a mini-variety show bringing Christmas cheers to an appreciative audience that included Chinese and other foreign friends of the Filipino community. Members of the Filipino community gamely participated in Pasko ng Bayan’s special features such as the Christmas parol and belen exhibit, the Noche Buena Food Contest and the Christmas headdress competition.
The Philippine Consulate General hopes to sustain the Pasko ng Bayan sa Chongqing as an annual event in close partnership with the local Filipino community. END
